Is parental consent required before a student can participate in the Summit Learning Program?

Parent engagement is critical to the success of Summit Learning. That’s why we support partner schools in providing information about Summit Learning to families through template materials, training, and our website.

We also respect the value of local control. School and district leaders are best positioned to determine how to engage families about new programs and initiatives. Some schools require parental permission before students can use online services like the Summit Learning Platform, while others have procedures to communicate with families about changes in curriculum, instruction, and technology. These decisions are made at the local level in accordance with district and state policies.

Please see more about consent under COPPA here and FERPA here.
