Editing Focus Areas

This article will focus on editing Focus Areas: 


 How do I edit Focus Areas? 

You can edit the details of a Focus Area from the Focus Area page:

  1. Click Edit Focus Area.
  2. The following actions can be completed in the editing modal:
    • Edit the title, description, and key terms of the Focus Area.
    • Select different or additional standards.
    • Add the Focus Area to specific courses.
    • Indicate whether you'd like to automatically accept changes made from the Base Curriculum. 
    • Choose to share the Focus Area with other schools and districts
    • For math Focus Areas, you can indicate what kind of calculator might be allowed for students to use on the assessment. 
  3. Click Save Changes.

Within each Objective, you can also edit or create new assessment questions and edit or add new resources.

Important Note: Once you edit a Focus Area and do not select to automatically accept changes made from the Base Curriculum, your Focus Area will not update when the Base Curriculum is updated. 

How do I add resources to Focus Areas?

You can add resources under a Focus Area's Introductory Materials or Objectives. 

From the Focus Area page, click Add New at the bottom of the Introductory Materials section, or any Objective section. You will be prompted to fill out the following:

  1. Enter a title and description for the resource.
  2. Attach your resource. You can upload a file from your computer, choose a Google or OneDrive doc (which will be converted automatically into a Notebook), or include links to websites or videos.
  3. Click Create.

Note: If you'd like the resource to only be available for English Learners (ELs), check the box under SDAIE Resource.


How do I edit and delete resources from Focus Areas?

You can edit resources in a Focus Area's Introductory Materials or Objectives.

To edit a resource:

  1. From the Focus Area page, click mceclip6.png to the right of the resource.
  2. You can edit the title or description of the resource, as well as the attachment. If you'd like the resource to only be available for English Learners (ELs), check the box under SDAIE Resource.
  3. To move the resource to a different objective, click Move To, then select the new objective.
  4. Click Save Changes

To delete a resource:

1. Click mceclip7.png to the right of the resource, then click Delete.
2. You'll have to confirm your choice to remove the resource.


How do I add Objectives to Focus Areas?

Objectives provide students a picture of what they will be able to do upon completion of a Focus Area. From a Focus Area page:

  1. Click Add Objective.

  2. Enter the objective title and click Save Changes.

The objective will appear at the bottom of the Focus Area page as your last objective. You can edit the objective to change its position or to move it to a different Focus Area entirely.

You can also add questions and add resources to the objective.


How do I edit and delete objectives?

Once you've added an objective to a Focus Area, you can edit or delete it as necessary.

To edit the details of an objective:

  1. From a Focus Area page, click ⋮ to the right of the title of the objective
  2. Click Edit Objective to edit the title of the objective or change the order in which it appears on the focus area page. You can also move the objective to a different Focus Area
  3. Click Save Changes

To delete an objective:

  1. Click ⋮ to the right of the title of the objective.
  2. Click Delete. You'll have to confirm your choice to remove the objective.

How do I move objectives to different Focus Areas?

You can move or copy an objective from one Focus Area to an entirely different Focus Area:

  1. From the current Focus Area page, click ⋮ to the right of the title of the objective.

  2. Click Move Objective to move the objective to a different Focus Area, or click Copy Objective to copy it to a different Focus Area.
    • Keep in mind that if you move the objective, the objective will no longer appear in the original Focus Area.
  3. Enter the name of the Focus Area you'd like to move or copy the objective to, then click Move or Copy.

Note: If you move an objective to a different Focus Area, all Content Assessment questions associated with the objective will also be moved.
