How to use the Pilot School Data Dashboard

This article provides some examples of how school leaders use the Pilot School Data Dashboard to support their teachers and students. The steps in the right-hand column are for the Pilot School Data Dashboard, a new design that we’re currently testing with a small group of schools.

To better understand student progress and teacher implementation

Activity 

How to

Identify trends in student outcomes

  1. From the Pilot Data Dashboard, go to the Student Outcomes section
  2. Hover over the colored bars to see student trends in each tile

Identify trends in implementation

  1. From the Pilot Data Dashboard, go to the Implementation Practices section
  2. Find the implementation metric you’d like to see
  3. Click View Details from that metric’s tile

Identify trends over time

  1. From the Pilot Data Dashboard, scroll to the Student outcomes over time section
  2. Filter the chart using the drop down on the right side to see specific metrics  

 

To prepare grade level team meetings

How to

Compare student progress across different grade levels

  1. Click Grade Level in the top navigation bar

See overall patterns in student outcomes and Summit implementation

  1. Click Grade Level in the top navigation bar
  2. Click View Details under one grade level

Identify students who need more support and those who’d are ready to progress faster

  1. Click Grade Level in the top navigation bar
  2. Click View Details under one grade level
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose a  Metric View
  4. Click the different tabs to highlight lists of students

Identify teachers who need more support or those who could be exemplars for others

  1. From the Pilot Data Dashboard, go to the Implementation Practices section
  2. Select the component that you are interested in and click View Details
  3. View the list by Grade Level or by Teacher

Identify teachers, courses, or mentors whose students are struggling in achieving course outcomes

  1. Click the Teacher, Mentor, or Course tab in the top navigation bar

 

To prepare for coaching meetings with a teacher

Assess student progress in a teacher’s course

  1. Click the Teacher tab in the top navigation bar

Assess a teacher’s implementation of project based learning and self-directed learning

  1. Click the Teacher tab in the top navigation bar
  2. Click View Details  under the teacher’s name

Assess student progress in the teacher’s mentor group

  1. Click the Mentor tab in the top navigation bar

Assess the teacher’s implementation of mentoring

  1. From the Pilot Data Dashboard, go to the Implementation Practices section
  2. Click View Details under Mentoring 

See detailed information about the teacher’s assigned projects/units and checkpoints

  1. This functionality is not currently supported in the SDD.   However, you can View As the teacher to obtain this information. 

 

To identify a group of students that will need intervention

Activity

How to

Identify students who are behind overall within each grade level

  1. Click Grade Level  in the top navigation bar
  2. Select a grade level and click View Details
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see Student Outcomes Breakdown
  4. Click the tabs to see lists of students who are 2-3 courses off track or 4+ courses off track

Identify students who are behind on a certain outcome (i.e. projects, PFAs, cog skills)

  1. Click Grade Level  in the top navigation bar
  2. Select a grade level and click View Details
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see Student Outcomes Breakdown
  4. Select a metric under Metric View and click the different tabs to see the list of students.
